Clutch Kit

Clutch Kit, YPK-30CF
Part number:
YPK-30CF

Manufacturer description: Barnett CF 2000 Clutch-Kit.

This is a carbon fiber clutch which runs 25% cooler and whose plates accept a 20% higher torque load for a given spring pressure than the Barnett Kevlar kit sold by other vendors. It includes friction plates, drive plates, springs and stainless steel shims (these are used to set the spring preload correctly). I found that on my bike, new OEM springs were too soft and the Barnett springs were too hard. Using the stock springs would let the clutch slip at WOT in top gear, as the revs would climb. Using the Barnett springs resulted in a cable that would stretch enough to make neutral hard to find. The solution is using the Barnett springs with a shim inside the spring under the washer to relieve some of the pressure. I used a spring tester to evaluate this set up and found the pressure to land just about half way between stock and un-shimmed Barnett. Neutral is easy to find, and it doesn't slip with full synthetic oil.

The proximity of the case and the clutch basket makes the front portion of the clutch cover gasket surface very difficult to clean. To compound the problem, this is right at the seam of the upper and lower case halves, where some glue is applied before the gasket goes on. The solution is to take the basket off, clean and then put it back on. To facilitate this, you will need a new clutch hub nut locking washer and a clutch hub holding tool, specific or universal.

Apply a dab of TB1184 gasket sealer at the crankcase seams before the gasket is put in place.
